Eric Morris has his hands full overhauling the Oklahoma State football team.
Jumping the state line from North Texas, Morris brought a familiar cast of players and coaches with him from his former program for an opportunity to steer the Cowboys back on the trail and try his hand at a new-look Big 12. Oklahoma State is a project, too, given the team’s four total wins dating back to 2023, when Mike Gundy‘s squad finished 10-4 overall and 16th in the AP Poll.
After opening the last season 1-2, Oklahoma State abruptly fired coaching veteran Gundy in favor of Doug Meacham, another name versed in Big 12 lore with stops at TCU, Houston and Kansas. The coaching search landed on Morris, who flipped the Mean Green into a winner in a short time.
Just how bad has Oklahoma State been, though? Let’s take a look at the Cowboys’ performance over their last 25 games and dive into things a little bit:
BIG 12
The Cowboys are 0-18 against the Big 12 through their last 25 games, with their last conference win coming 40-34 at home against BYU on Nov. 25, 2023, which, fun fact, preceded the final football game played by the Texas Longhorns as a member of the Big 12 in the league championship game. Oklahoma State lost that contest 49-21, as Texas waltzed out the door en route to the SEC. The closest the Cowboys came to a Big 12 last year was a 17-14 loss at UCF.
Oklahoma State begins league play at West Virginia on Sept. 26 with kickoff TBD.
BIG TEN
Just one Big Ten opponent, Oregon, has met the Cowboys over their last 25 games, and it was a doozy. The No. 6 Ducks handed down a 69-3 home win last September in a contest where quarterback Zane Flores, now at Iowa State, completed just seven passes for 67 yards and two interceptions. By contrast, Ducks quarterback Dante Moore threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns.
The Cowboys get another look at Oregon, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, Sept. 12 in Stillwater with a 12 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN.
SEC
Funny enough, Oklahoma State has actually won its last two meetings against SEC opponents: the first being a 39-31 home win over Arkansas during the 2024 non-con, and the second a 31-23 neutral-site win over Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl of all games. Arkansas awaits Oklahoma State for a Week 2 road trip in 2027.
AMERICAN
The Cowboys are 1-1 against the American Conference (both games with Tulsa), including last year’s 19-12 home loss to the Golden Hurricane for the first time since 1998 and their first in Stillwater since 1951.
Oklahoma State travels to Tulsa Sept. 5 to begin the season with a 3:45 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPNU.
FCS
Against FCS opponents, Oklahoma State is a perfect 2-0 through its last 25 games. Last year’s lone win, a 27-7 win over UT Martin in the home opener, and a 44-20 victory over South Dakota State in 2024’s opener mark the last two times the Cowboys have faced off with such a foe. The Murray State Racers of the Missouri Valley visit Oklahoma State in Week 3.
