Carson Beck is looking for a fresh start, and the Miami Hurricanes were more than happy to give it to him.
Beck has been at Georgia for the past four seasons, where he was the starting quarterback for the past two. He injured himself in Georgia’s SEC Championship game win over Texas, and it was so bad that he had to undergo elbow surgery on a torn UCL immediately after the game.
That moment perhaps led to a point of reflection for Beck, which led him to transfer to Miami. That, or the fact that his girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder, plays basketball for the Hurricanes. Also, Miami is reportedly giving him a
ton of NIL money to be the quarterback in 2025.
Either way, Beck will be in Coral Gables this fall instead of Athens, but first he has to get better. He hasn’t started throwing yet, but according to head coach Mario Cristobal, who appeared on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” on Tuesday to talk about the Hurricanes, Beck is progressing well in his recovery.
“He’s doing well. He’s running really fast. He’s not throwing the ball yet, but he’s very close to doing so, so he’s taking part in all that he can do. And he should be throwing soon, maybe in a couple of weeks or so,” Cristobal said (h/t On3).
Miami was one of the top teams in the country last season and the Hurricanes are hoping that Beck can put them over the top with Cam Ward heading to the NFL. The status of his throwing elbow will be a huge point of focus this offseason until we’re able to see him throw again in live action this fall.
Beck threw for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions last season for UGA.
