With a new head coach at the helm, West Virginia enters a new era of Mountaineer football, or at least, kind of.
Rich Rodriguez was announced as the head coach in Morgantown for the second time in his career, and during the offseason, the West Virginia head coach sat down with Greg McElroy on the Always College Football podcast to discuss the task ahead.

“I think we can have a pretty good team this year,” Rodriguez said. “This is why I’m so grateful to be back. We have everything in place here at West Virginia to win the Big 12.”
After leaving West Virginia in 2007, Rodriguez accepted the head coaching job at Michigan, where he was fired after three seasons. He then bounced around college athletics with stops at Arizona, Ole Miss, Hawaii, Louisiana-Monroe, and Jacksonville State, where he reminded the college football world what he was capable of.
Rodriguez finished his thoughts by saying, “The facilities are here, we’re gonna have enough in the rev share to compete, we have the staff in place, and obviously we have the university and the town. I think we’re going to have things in place to win it all, and that’s the part that I’m most pleased with.”
West Virginia kicks off the 2025 college football season on Saturday, August 30th, vs. Robert Morris.
