With the USC football program having the No. 1-ranked recruiting class this year, the team has once again achieved a recruiting win with a four-star pass rusher. As the USC football team has been winning over recruits, the latest is Mekai Brown, who chose the Trojans over big programs like Ohio State and Notre Dame, according to Hayes Fawcett.

“BREAKING: Elite 2027 EDGE Mekai Brown has Committed to USC, he tells me for [Rivals],” Fawcett wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The 6’6 235 EDGE chose the Trojans over Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Notre Dame. He’s ranked as a Top 30 Recruit in the 2027 Rivals300.”

Brown went to high school in Greenwich, Connecticut, and ranks highly on Rivals’ list in major categories, as he’s the 50th-ranked recruit nationally, seventh as an edge player, and first in the state of Connecticut. The high school star explained how the second visit to USC “really changed things.”

“That second visit really changed things for me,” Brown said, via Rivals. “I got to see more of USC and more of L.A., and it just felt different. After that visit, USC moved to the top of my list. I kept taking visits, but I didn’t get that feeling.”

New USC football recruit explains how the program stood out to him

While the second visit impacted Brown, it seemed right from the get-go that the USC football program stood out, with development and leadership, like head coach Lincoln Riley, setting itself apart.

“Some schools made moves for me on visits,” Brown said about his recruitment journey. “But none were like USC. When I left USC in March, I told my mom it would be hard not to commit right then. I stayed with my plan, took more visits, and compared everything — but I kept coming back to USC.”

“Development, where the program is going, and the leadership all stood out,” Brown continued. “When I talked with the staff, they made it clear USC is about more than just football.”

At any rate, Brown looks to be an integral part of the Trojans’ future as the team has a bright future.
