For the second straight year, the Kansas Jayhawks have landed the No. 1 prep recruit as Tyran Stokes announced his commitment to the Jayhawks on Tuesday.

Stokes announced his decision during “Inside the NBA” on ESPN. He was the highest remaining unsigned recruit in the Class of 2027.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward was choosing between Kansas and Kentucky. He recently played in the Jordan Brand Classic and was named a McDonald’s All-American and played in that annual showcase earlier this month.

The Rainier Beach, Wash., star averaged 31 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals as he was named the MaxPreps Washington Player of the Year.

Kansas landed the nation’s No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2026 in guard Darryn Peterson. He played one season for the Jayhawks before he declared for the NBA Draft last week. Peterson averaged 30.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game as a senior in high school. With Kansas, he averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He also had 38 assists, 34 steals and 15 blocks.

The Jayhawks also landed two other No. 1 overall prospects in the Bill Self era — Andrew Wiggins and Josh Jackson.

The Jayhawks signed four players during the early signing period in November. Those incoming freshmen included five-star guard Taylen Kinney, a Top 25 player out of RWE at Overtime Elite in Atlanta; five-star forward Davion Adkins, a Top 50 player from Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; guard Trent Perry, a Top 100 guard from Link Academy in Branson, Mo.; and four-star guard Luke Barnett from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif..

It’s been a turbulent offseason since the Jayhawks were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by St. John’s. After coach Bill Self declared he was coming back for the 2026-27 season, the transfer portal churned.

Kansas has lost guard Corbin Allen, center Flory Bidunga, forward Samis Calderon, guard Jayden Dawson, guard Elmarko Jackson, guard Jabari McDowell and forward Bryson Tiller,

Bidunga is heading to Louisville, Calderon is heading to St. Louis, Jackson is heading to Georgetown, McDowell is heading to Wake Forest and Tiller is heading to Missouri.

Guard Melvin Council Jr. is also in the transfer portal after going through senior day activities. Center Paul Mbiya declared for the transfer portal but opted to return to Kansas next season.

Coming into the program as transfers are former Toledo guard Leroy Blyden Jr., Utah forward Keanu Dawes and College of Charleston center Christian Reeves.
