Welcome to Tuesday Takes, where I give you three takes from the Big 12. It was a jam-packed week full of exciting news, but several things caught my attention over the last few days.
The Big 12 Had the Greatest NBA Draft Ever
Looking back at the 2026 NBA Draft, it was a historic one for the Big 12. For the first time in conference history, we saw two players get taken with the first two picks of the draft. On top of that, the Big 12 had 13 players selected overall, a conference record. Not only that, but it was also the most in the entire country, because no conference had more players drafted than the Big 12.
This just goes to show why this conference is the best in college basketball, and literally every team in the Big 12 has at least one or two players who can play at the next level. That is why I believe this past draft was the best in Big 12 history and of all time.
Texas Tech Won’t Be the Only Great Defense
Typically, when people talk about the Big 12 defenses, it starts with Texas Tech. It’s no secret that Texas Tech is extremely talented, and they had arguably the best defense in college football last year. And this year should be no different on paper.
However, when the CBS article came out about returning defensive production, which measured players coming back to a team, and transfer portal talent based on FBS experience, I was shocked to see so many Big 12 teams crack the top ten. Oklahoma State, Kansas, and UCF made the top 10 alongside Tech, and several other teams made the top 20, including Arizona State, Houston, Colorado, and BYU.
I Won’t Miss Brendan Sorsby
The never-ending saga of Brendan Sorsby took another turn last week when the NFL announced that they were not going to hold a supplemental draft. Not only did the NFL say no for now, but so did the CFL.
Now, Sorsby has finally decided he is going to focus on his recovery and begin preparing for the 2027 NFL Draft. Here was his statement on Tuesday.
I don’t know about you, but I am tired of talking about him. All that matters is that he isn’t the Big 12’s problem anymore.
