Could Detroit keep Dylan Larkin instead of Trading Him? Is That Even an Option Now?

Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff appeared on TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked whether he could see a world in which Detroit Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman doesn’t actually trade Dylan Larkin.

Host: “Can you see Steve Yzerman just not doing anything here, just saying now? No, you’re stuck with us?”

NHL Rumors: Dylan Larkin, Detroit Red Wings, and the Minnesota Wild

Anthony Di Marco: ” I mean, I think he’s the biggest hero GM in the league, so maybe, but I just.. I don’t see how you bring, bring him back now. Obviously, they sparred in words a little over a year ago, after the trade deadline and the inactions of Steve Yzerman, I just.. I don’t see why he would do that. That’d be like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I think he’s gonna get.. he’s gonna bamboozle some GM. Maybe it will be Bill Guerin. Like, I mean, Bill Guerin just goes out and gets what he wants. We saw that you just paid the piper for Quinn Hughes, and I think a deal will get done. I just don’t know. I know Yzerman is a stubborn guy, but I just don’t know that if he would go down that road, because it just would not help anyone.”

Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff appeared on TSN Radio in Montreal and on the follow up was asked if the Minnesota Wild and their management are waiting for something else, or is now the time to strike for their center.

Host: The one thing I wonder, for Minnesota, in this potential fit with Dylan Larkin, if you’re Bill Guerin, are you going to part with pieces when Jack Hughes might become available at some point, or Jack Hughes might force his way out of New Jersey, and you can a) reunite the brothers, and b) that means you’ll probably get Quinn Hughes to sign a major extension.”

Di Marco: “I mean, it’s a good point, Mitch, and I think that if all things were equal, he would go down that road. But the Minnesota Wild, like you said, like you were, you alluded to, rather, there’s only one more year left guaranteed of Quinn Hughes, like you can’t bank on New Jersey making their corner their franchise cornerstone available.

Dylan Larkin Wants to Go to Three Teams

And if Dylan Larkin is available, which we know he is, and if Dylan Larkin wants to go to Minnesota, which we now know he does, I think you have to pull the trigger. There could be a move to get Jack Hughes into Minnesota, even if Larkin goes there now. Obviously, if you’re blowing all those assets to bring in Larkin, and then you’ve already blown a lot of assets to bring in (Quinn) Hughes, it might make it more difficult.

I just don’t think that Minnesota could afford to wait, because their window is now, especially with that (Kirill) Kaprizov’s new contract kicking in next year.”
