Six players set for the EHL next Easter were pivotal for the Young Red Panthers as Belgium won the bronze medal at the women’s Junior World Cup last weekend in Chile.
Braxgata’s Camille Belis, Louise Dewaet and Marthe-Marie Geerts and Gantoise trio Fee Van Den Abeele, Alexi Van Remortel and Louise Van Hecke were key parts of their success.
The side went unbeaten in the tournament in normal time, only missing out on a final spot at the hands of the Netherlands in a semi-final shoot-out.
Along the way, they beat Wales, Zimbabwe and USA with a draw against Argentina before that Dutch encounter.
It put them through to the bronze match which they won impressively 5-1 against China with Dewaet netting twice with Van Hecke and Van Remortel also on the mark.
Indeed, Van Remortel ended up as one of the team’s joint top scorers – along with Agathe Favart – with seven to their name. Belis, already an established senior star, captained the side.
It was their second successive bronze in the Junior World Cup in what was just their fourth appearance on this stage.
