Kathryn Tappen: “Elliotte, Dallas Stars, done, eliminated. Minnesota took care of them. So now our attention shifts towards the Jason Robertson situation. And, you know, it seemed like mid-season, all things would lead towards, yes, he’s going to re-sign there. Why wouldn’t he? Why wouldn’t he want to? Why wouldn’t they want to? But are, is that going to be realistic for the Dallas Stars to be able to meet his expectations in this negotiation?
How Bold Will the Detroit Red Wings Get in the Offseason?
Friedman: “You know why, Kathryn, after watching the playoffs, I don’t know how they can’t. Like, you know, he, like he was, I give Jason Robertson a lot of credit, because the Stars basically said to him this year, show me. Show us. And he did.
He was, like he might be a first All-Star team guy at the end of the year. He scored 40 goals. He had a great season. He had five goals in six games in the playoffs, and a team that really had trouble scoring. He did everything that was asked of him.
And the only way I can see it not happening is if, for some reason, he just decides he doesn’t want to be there anymore. And I don’t have any reason to believe that. I think the Dallas, I think he proved what he said.
Now, I do think he wants it to start with a 12. I think, you know, (Mikko) Rantanen got $12 million. I think he at least wants $12 million. And they might have to do some roster reconfiguration around that with some of the other.
But if I’m the Dallas Stars right now, I’m saying, Jason, you proved it to us, and let’s get it done.”
