Netherlands: The Weekend: Duck Trophy, Pop Cheese Sandwich And Green Jacket

From Maastricht to Hattem and at Ares to Leonidas, hockey was back in full swing this past weekend. We take a look at the socials of the Fourth through the Transition Class. Some of the Instagram pearls of the standard teams.

Your team in this column next week? Send us a DM.

We begin our overview with the ladies of Cranendonck. The Brabanders traveled to Zeeland, but unfortunately returned empty-handed. Cranendonck started the game moderately but recovered well along the way. An exploited penalty ball in the second half brought hope, but the equalizer did not materialize (3-2). Despite the disappointing result, Cranendonck thanked the opponent Olympia for the sporting match. Goalkeeper Jade was awarded the Eendracht trophy thanks to her strong performance.

Hard fought. No points, but finally the first goals for the Hoogeveen men. Against Salland the team started badly. The first two quarters Hoogeveen had to warm up. From the third quarter on the team started to play better. Halfway through that quarter Teun completed a nice pass from Julian. Teun was successful again in the fourth quarter. This time from the penalty spot. The result? 5-2 for Salland.

The run-up to the game against Lelystad was messy for the ladies from Westerduiven. Some players had to blow the whistle in the morning and did not join until just before the line-up. Although the games are going better and better, some sloppiness here and there caused the team to face a 0-2 deficit in the first half. It wasn’t over yet and with a full tank of energy, Westerduiven started the third quarter. Lisa took advantage of great team play and sent a rocket into the ropes. Westerduiven then created several chances, but the equalizer failed to materialize. On a positive note, the team is clearly on the upswing. The first points are getting closer and who knows, maybe as early as next week.

The clash between Basko and Concordia provided spectacle from start to finish. Bram had eaten his tosti with popping cheese, as he scored within minutes. Moments later, Vince struck with a banana ball from a misdirected corner. Concordia did a bit back, but then a masterful combination made it 3-1, all still in the first quarter. Concordia put high pressure, but Basko answered with long balls. When the visitors also picked up a yellow card, Basko decided the match via a penalty corner: 4-1. Vince was awarded the Golden Stick with two goals and an assist. Yes, then you can speak of a class match.

Last weekend the ladies of Nova did not play their best game. So against Berkel-Enschot they really needed more punch. The team was ready to kick off after a good pre-conversation and a long, tough warm-up. Still, those first few minutes we had to get used to the high tempo of Berkel-Enschot. They were fierce and deadly in the circle. It earned Berkel-Enschot the lead. Nova adjusted and it paid off. Via a rebound from a penalty corner, Yfke scored the 1-1. Still Nova went to rest with a 2-1 deficit. In the second half there were still chances. However, the net was not found. Berkel-Enschot stepped up the pressure and ran out to 1-4. Although the result suggests a bigger difference than the game, Nova showed more spirit and fighting spirit. That gives confidence for the upcoming matches, because celebrating a victory together remains the best goal.

After a week of tinkering with the right formula, Culemborg started flaming. Mark tapped in the 1-0 early on with a tip-in. After halftime, Bemmel got into the game better and the equalizer fell after an unfortunate moment. Tension rose, but a penalty corner by Chris put Culemborg back in the lead: 2-1. Despite a strong final offensive by Bemmel, the team held on. The emotion at the final whistle was great. And as the coach said afterwards: ‘If you work so hard, you make a big step forward with this game.’ There was a personal award for Finn. He was named Man of the Match.

Derby’s ladies took on co-leader HUDITO. A fierce start produced an early corner that was cashed in by Wil. After that, Derby continued to play its own game. It yielded no field goals but did produce a number of corners, one of which An exploited: 0-2. With that, Derby took nine points in three games. A dream start. Should the team already adjust its ambitions for the season? In addition, Juliette made her debut in Ladies 1 and received compliments. For now the shoes in a lather and then ready again for next week.

Once the first words are read, as a reader you already sense the direction the story is going. Not every performance ends with a standing ovation, including Circus Hilversum. The start was promising and a masterstroke was even placed, but a slight miscalculation turned the performance around. The game delivered excitement and spectacle, but not the Grand Finale that had been hoped for. Zwolle walked away with a 4-2 victory. Still, Hilversum is looking ahead. The next show will be bigger, crazier and more spectacular.

DES continued its upward trend convincingly with a 4-0 victory. The team created many chances and made hardly any mistakes, although there are always areas for improvement to work on. Thanks go to the minis and ball girls who enthusiastically supported the team.

The Huizen men experienced a wonderful Sunday with a big 7-1 victory over Zwart-Wit. Thur was the big man with two goals and was rightly elected Man of the Match. He therefore got to don the matching green jacket for the first time.
