Could the New York Islanders Trade for Filip Hronek?
Stefen Rosner of the Hockey News: Rosner writes that with the injury to Alexander Romanov, the Islanders could turn back to a familiar trade partner in the Vancouver Canucks and try to trade for Filip Hronek.
NHL Rumors: What Veterans Can the Vancouver Canucks Actually Move?
The Canucks are looking to change their mix and are listening to all veterans, not just UFAs, and that could mean Hronek is in play. However, Hronek holds a no-movement clause and has a say where he wants to go. Now the Canucks are not open to trading him or Quinn Hughes, but, as Rosner writes, if the right team came calling, Vancouver would have to think about it.
The biggest question is the cost of the player to the Islanders. We know the Canucks got him for the Islanders’ 2023 first and Vancouver’s 2023 second-round pick from Detroit. So could something like a first, a third, and another piece get it done if Hronek wanted to go to the Island?
What Will Happen with Rasmus Andersson in Calgary?
Eric Francis of Sportsnet: Francis writes that with the Calgary Flames off to a slow start in the standings, attention is turning to what will happen to Rasmus Andersson. He controls the cards when it comes to his future.
NHL News: Calgary Flames Extend Craig Conroy and Management Group
The pending unrestricted free agent knows whether he is supposed to stay in Calgary long-term or get traded is being left up to fate, as Andersson said, “if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.” Andersson hears the noise from the insiders but keeps an open mind. All options are on the table, including re-signing in Calgary.
Andersson continues to handle this contract discussion like a true professional, focusing on hockey and trying to make the Swedish Olympic team. He was just named the first star of the week by the NHL. So all the attention will be on what he does on the ice. However, as the NHL trade deadline approaches, the calls will continue as teams will want his services.
