Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – Matthew Schaefer’s Impact On Long Island episode, on the Edmonton Oilers and forward Andrew Mangiapane. He’s been a healthy scratch and has one year left at $3.6 million. Could the Anaheim Ducks be one of the teams interested? What about the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Friedman: “So some other stuff. Looking out there. Mangiapani, second scratch, you know, we’ll, we’ll see. The, you know, one of the teams told me he’s like, if you believe in the PDO stat, which is what you’re shooting percentage and your team save percentage is. Apparently, his is really bad. So that’s kind of, sort of like, unofficially, it’s kind of like the luck stat. That means you’re not getting the shooting luck and you’re not getting save luck when you’re on the ice.
NHL Rumors: Don’t Get Caught up in the Language With the Vancouver Canucks and Kiefer Sherwood
I do think the Oilers are going to be able to find a landing for Mangiapani. It’s one more year. It’s $3.6 (million). I don’t think it’s going to be too hard. He has proven he can score. It’s just not, like you look at Mason Marchment. Marchment was a bad fit in Seattle. Didn’t work. He’s gone to Columbus. He’s been very good for them. So you can see some players that go and they have a change. We’ll see what happens.
I did mention Anaheim on Saturday night, and one of, there’s two reasons I mentioned them. Number one, they’ve started to struggle a bit. Like they have a lot of guys who’ve never gone through this meat grinder before. Really talented team, some good veterans. You know, the (Radko) Gudas’s, the (Jacob) Trouba’s, the (Chris) Krieder’s. They just got a big injury to (Frank) Vatrano. He’s going to be out for a while. And I just wondered if they might want a veteran to help some of their kids get through this, and they have cap room.
The other thing there, too, is that I did have some people who thought that. They thought maybe that, like a (Ryan) Strome for Mangiapane deal might make sense. You know, the problem is Strome makes about a million and a half more than Mangiapani and Edmonton doesn’t have the room to take all that. So it would be interesting to see how Anaheim would feel about all that situation.
I’ve also heard, although I have not confirmed it through the Oilers, but I’ve heard it that they are looking for a player who is probably would be more accepting of the role that Mangiapani was going to start to have to play. Which is sort of like a bottom six, you know, somebody who’s not going to get as much of a chance, probably, to play with a Leon (Draisaitl) or a Connor (McDavid). That maybe that spot wasn’t going to be there as much. So we’ll see. And Strome wouldn’t necessarily fit that.
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and the Anaheim Ducks
So that’s what I kind of heard with him. You know, I did have some people who said to me that they kind of wondered if Toronto might do it. Like maybe a (Matias) Maccelli kind of move. But I don’t think Toronto is going to do that. Obviously, I think some people say that because Treliving obviously had Mangiapane in Calgary. I don’t think that’s the case. But I do think they’re going to find a landing spot for him. I just, again, I just don’t know the timeline.”
