The Ottawa Senators’ season just ended, and the rumors are already starting to swirl around Brady Tkachuk
Zoe Pierce of NHL: Senators GM Steve Staios on the rumors and noise around the future of Brady Tkachuk in Ottawa:
“It’s nonsense is what it is. I don’t read it. I don’t bother with it. We know what we have internally. We have great communication with our players, so we really don’t focus on it.
“I mean, this comes up very often. There’s nothing that we have talked about or thought about where that conversation should happen.”
The 26-year-old Tkachuk has two years left at an $8,205,714 cap hit. He put up 22 goals and 37 assists in 60 games during the regular season. No points in four playoff games.

“I think he dealt with a lot,” Staios said. “I think we have to really put this into perspective here. I mean, he came out of the gate, he dealt with an injury to start the season, goes off to the Olympics, wins a gold medal. In a condensed schedule, regular-season schedule — there was a lot this year. And there’s a lot on him, and he continued to play.”
NHL Watcher: Chris Johnston summed it up best on his podcast: even if the Sens explored a Brady Tkachuk trade, he has full control, the return would be underwhelming, and they wouldn’t get fair value. The best-case scenario is Tkachuk returning and being on the same page with the team.
Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff: Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk wasn’t at their locker cleanout yesterday as he left to be with his wife, who just recently gave birth to their second child. Tkachuk was held pointless in the four-game sweep, and there is going to be plenty of talk about his future.
Tkachuk seemed disinterested at times, and his relationship with Ottawa is fraying. He’s got two years left on his contract at $8,205,714 million, and many are wondering if he’ll follow in his brother Matthew’s footsteps and force his way off of a Canadian team.
Goals don’t come easily to the Senators, and trading Tkachuk won’t help on that front, to mention all the other things he does. He hasn’t asked for a trade, and he controls things with his no-movement clause. Would the Senators be able to move for another high-impact, first-line forward, plus some picks, prospects and/or young NHLer?
NHL Rumors: Rangers, Maple Leafs, Canucks, and Blackhawks
Could the Senators get a package from the Florida Panthers? Could they get Robert Thomas out of St. Louis? What about the New York Rangers or New Jersey, both are close to his offseason home in New Jersey.
