The Toronto Maple Leafs Should Have More Player Movement Than the Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago Blackhawks – who’s staying, who’s going tiers

Scott Powers of The Athletic: Looking at the Chicago Blackhawks roster and tiering who is staying and who could be gone.

Returning for sure – Connor Bedard, Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Donato, Anton Frondell, Ryan Greene, Wyatt Kaiser, Spencer Knight, Nick Lardis, and Artyom Levshunov, Oliver Moore, Frank Nazar, Sam Rinzel, Teuvo Teravainen, and Alex Vlasic.

Returning … we think – Louis Crevier, Ethan Del Mastro, Kevin Korchinski, Landon Slaggert, and Arvid Soderblom.

The 50-50 Club – Andre Burakovsky, Andrew Mangiapane, and Ilya Mikheyev.

Likely moving on – Matt Grzelcyk and Sam Lafferty.

How the NHL Salary Cap Shapes Trade Strategy in the Modern Era

A look at some Toronto Maple Leafs players who may not be back next season

Jonas Siegel of The Athletic: Looking at some Toronto Maple Leafs players who may not be back next season.

Max Domi has a 12-team no-trade clause and two years left at $3.75 million. There may not be a big market, but someone might like his versatility for a cheap acquisition cost.

Calle Jarnkrok, a free agent that didn’t provide much value last year.

Matias Maccelli will likely be back. He’s owed a $4.1 million qualifying offer, but maybe they would work out a deal before at a lower cap hit. If Craig Berube is back behind the bench, the odds increase that Maccelli won’t be.

Jacob Quillan is a 24-year-old pending RFA, and it’s likely they won’t qualify him. The contract wouldn’t be for much, though.

Nick Robertson is another pending RFA, and he likely won’t be back with the Leafs next season.

Right-handed defenseman Brandon Carlo has a year left at $3.49 million and should be easy to move. Being right-handed and at a good number will generate interest.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson will be 35 in a few months and has two years left at $3.5 million. He put up 39 points, and they would be able to get some assets for him. They considered trading him at the deadline.

Morgan Rielly, with four years left at $7.5 million, will likely be back unless new management can ‘force’ him out. He’s got a full no-movement clause.

Oilers Injuries Mount Ahead of Pivotal Game 6 vs Ducks

Troy Stecher is a pending free agent, and with every other defenseman under contract and the Leafs needing to make some changes, he’s likely gone.
