Coaching candidates for the Toronto Maple Leafs

Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Potential Toronto Maple Leafs coaching candidates: Bruce Cassidy (Oilers seem a more likely landing spot), Manny Malhotra (will the Canucks grant anyone permission?), Jack Capuano, David Carle, Mike Yeo, John Gruden (Marlies coach), and Joe Sacco.

More candidates to consider: Pascal Vincent, Peter Laviolette, Gerard Gallant, Steve Sullivan, Dean Evason.

Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff: Toronto Maple Leafs potential coaching tiers.

Too Late? Bruce Cassidy – The Oilers may be his preferred team.

The Veteran Retreads – Bruce Boudreau, Dean Evanson, Peter Laviolette, and Patrick Roy (would be disastrous).

The Toronto Maple Leafs would be interested in Vincent Trocheck

Second Chances – Kris Knoblauch, Todd Nelson, and Jay Woodcroft.

Fresh Perspective – Misha Donskov, Jay Leach, and Manny Malhotra.

Internal Candidates – John Gruden, Derek Lalonde, and Steve Sullivan.

Off the Board – Jussi Ahokas and David Carle.

NHL Watcher: Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast: “I don’t think Cassidy is going to end up in Toronto, I think it’s unlikely he goes there and I wouldn’t say he’s there #1 choice either, from what I’m hearing, but I do think the Oilers have a legit rival in LA, I think the Kings are very interested in Cassidy”

The Dallas Stars may need to make some trades to clear out cap room to re-sign Jason Robertson

Lia Assimakopoulos of the Dallas Morning News: Will the Dallas Stars be able to afford to re-sign pending RFA forward Jason Robertson, who will be looking for at least $12 million? They have $11 million in projected salary cap space and still need to add two or three more forwards. The Stars will need to clear out some salary if they want to bring him back. Potential trade options.

Radek Faksa – He has two years left at $2 million. He’s a good depth center who kills penalties. He may need surgery after a serious laceration to his foot that he suffered at the Olympics.

Sam Steel – Has a year left at $2.1 million. A good penalty killer who put up 12 goals and 21 assists in 73 games.

NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers, and the Dallas Stars

Ilya Lyubushkin – Last year of his deal at $3.25 million. Played in only 53 games last year. A good depth defenseman, but re-signing Alexander Petrovic would be much cheaper.

Tyler Myers – Gave up two picks to get him and has a year left at $1.5 million. He was a healthy scratch for some playoff games after making some costly mistakes. May look to move Lyubushkin over Myers. 12-team no-trade.
