Los Angeles Sparks waive newly-signed guard after three days

Players on the fringe of making it in the WNBA are often waived multiple times a season, and Grace Berger is the latest such example.

Berger signed with the Los Angeles Sparks on a hardship contract on Tuesday and was subsequently waived on Friday, with Kelsey Plum returning to the lineup. She’s one of dozens of players across the league who have been temporarily signed this season due to a team dealing with multiple injuries, only to be waived when that team reached 10 active players.

Berger struggled in her lone appearance as a Spark, going scoreless with 3 turnovers in 16 minutes of action in a blowout loss to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday.

Grace Berger has had stints with the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx

Berger, a 26-year-old guard, was selected with the 7th overall pick in 2023 by the Indiana Fever. She was on the Fever for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, but was waived in the offseason. She averaged 3.9 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in two seasons in the WNBA, shooting 44.1% from the field and 46.2% from three.

She spent training camp with the Minnesota Lynx, but was waived after the season began. Now, the former Indiana Hoosier star is once again a free agent.
