Stevenson was scheduled to defend his title against Schofield on February 22, 2025, in Riyadh. The fight was canceled during fight week after Schofield was withdrawn from the event, with Josh Padley stepping in as a late replacement.
Stevenson went on to defeat Padley and has remained active since then. The unbeaten champion has fought three times since the scheduled Schofield bout collapsed, recording victories over Padley, William Zepeda, and Teofimo Lopez.
Schofield, now 23, has fought once during that same period. The undefeated contender improved to 19-0 with 13 knockouts when he stopped former world champion Tevin Farmer in the first round on June 28, 2025.
Stevenson has also recently been linked to Zuffa Boxing, with reports suggesting discussions about future promotional opportunities there.
The Stevenson-Schofield matchup has never been rescheduled. Despite occasional discussion from fans and media, both fighters have moved in different directions since the cancellation, with Stevenson continuing his reign near the top of the lightweight division while Schofield works his way back toward title contention.
