The South Carolina Gamecocks have picked up the biggest win of their 2027 recruiting cycle.
Heck, it may be the biggest recruiting win of the Shane Beamer era at South Carolina.
On Wednesday, cornerback Joshua Dobson from Cornelius, North Carolina, decided to go home. He committed to South Carolina over the Auburn Tigers, Michigan Wolverines and Texas A&M Aggies.
As mentioned, this will be a homecoming for the five-star prospect. Now playing for Hough High School in Cornelius, he is originally from Fort Mill, South Carolina, which is roughly an hour north of Columbia, South Carolina.
Dobson took a visit to all four of his finalists, and it was the chance to talk to Beamer that really sold him on the Gamecocks. He visited South Carolina on June 19 and came away impressed with what Beamer had to say.
“His message was really like, come where you know you’re going to get taken care of and get developed the right way,” Dobson told Rivals after the visit. “And then the biggest thing with me was his sustainability, but they made it clear to me that, that’s obviously going to take care of itself. They think they’re going to have a great season this year. That really stood out to me.”
Dobson is ranked as the No. 3 cornerback in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
If he ends up signing, per ESPN, he’ll be South Carolina’s highest-ranked prospect since five-star defensive end Jordan Burch in 2020.
Checking in at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Dobson snagged four tackles and a pass breakup in eight games as a junior at Catawba Ridge High School (Fort Mill) in 2025. He also caught three passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
The defensive numbers don’t scream superstar, but the athleticism is there.
“Not only has [he] tested in the upper percentile, but [he] has turned heads in a camp setting with his quick feet and smooth transitions,” wrote 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Irvins.
