Floyd Mayweather Declares He’s Still ‘The Face Of Boxing’ At 50

Floyd Mayweather believes retirement hasn’t changed his standing in the sport.

“I’m still the face of boxing,” Mayweather said to Come and Talk 2 Me while discussing a potential return to the ring. “I’m motherf—ing 50 years old and still the face of boxing.”

The former five-division world champion made the remark while speaking about a possible comeback, with exhibition bouts against names such as Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao among the possibilities that have been discussed. While nothing has been finalized, Mayweather said he remains open to returning under the right circumstances.

Mayweather also rejected suggestions that he is returning because of financial problems.

“If I’m able to steal some extra money… why not?” he said. “If I’m able just to steal a little bit, why not?”

The unbeaten former champion insisted his finances remain secure, pointing to his real estate holdings, paid-off properties and businesses while saying he continues to provide for his family and employees. He added that exhibitions allow him to entertain fans while staying active without committing to a full-time comeback.

As for whether he will compete professionally again, Mayweather said “everything is in the air” as he deals with ongoing business matters involving a former associate he described as a “con artist” and “scammer.” Until those issues are resolved, he said no plans have been finalized.

Mayweather retired with a perfect 50-0 record after stopping Conor McGregor in their 2017 crossover bout. Since then, he has remained active through a series of exhibitions while staying involved with Mayweather Promotions and mentoring young fighters.

His claim of still being boxing’s face is likely to spark debate among fans.

Mayweather has built a career on believing nobody is bigger than him. At 50 years old, that confidence remains unchanged.
