Last week, a court ruling granted several players an additional year of college eligibility in conjunction with the NCAA’s new rule granting a fifth year of eligibility to student athletes. As part of the ruling, the transfer portal is re-opening from Aug. 3-10 for the players recently eligible. One of those players who gained another season of eligibility was former Arkansas forward Malique Ewin who committed to Oregon out of the transfer portal, as per The Field of 68.

Malique Ewin just completed his lone season at Arkansas after entering the transfer portal the year before, and now he will join his fourth Division 1 program in Oregon, in the past five years. Ewin began his college career at Ole Miss before attending South Plains Community College, then transferring to Florida State before ending up at Arkansas.
In what would have been his final season of college basketball eligibility, he appeared in 37 games, including four starts, at just about 21 minutes per game. He averaged 9.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.1 blocked shots with splits of 59 percent shooting from the field, 75 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 73.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Ewin will be joining an Oregon team that is coming off a disappointing season in which they finished 12-20 and missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three seasons. Longtime Oregon coach Dana Altman will be entering his 17th season at the helm.

Ewin joins an Oregon transfer class that includes Dwayne Aristode, Pharaoh Compton, Taylor Bol Bowen, Fred Payne, Jasper Johnson, Andrew Meadow, Jerry Easter II and Tyrone Riley.
