After another rocky start, the Dodgers mount late comeback behind … Michael Conforto? – Dodgers Digest

Trying to salvage a split for the series against the Mets, things didn’t look good for the Dodgers early, as Landon Knack got blowed up and the offense only had one solid inning early on before getting mowed down. However, for the third time in this series alone, they mounted a comeback late, and they were able to complete it thanks to an unlikely source in a 6-5 victory.

I was always optimistic.

Recap is gonna be a while, I just wrote a short loss recap, tbh.

======

Landon Knack had a terrible start, there’s no way around it. He gave up three solo homers and honestly was extremely lucky to only give up four runs in 3.1 innings after walking five batters.

Part of that was Jack Dreyer helping him out of trouble in the 4th, and he ended up pitching two scoreless innings. Jose Urena looked solid early — with some help from Will Smith behind the plate — and ended up covering seven outs, but eventually gave up a run in the 8th before Alex Vesia got the last out of the frame.

So prior to the 9th, that was five runs the Dodgers had to makeup, and they were lucky that’s all it was as the Mets left 13 on base in the game.

Thankful to them.

The problem was that on the other side was David Peterson, who basically had just one bad inning against the Dodgers out of his seven. In the 3rd he gave up a Miguel Rojas walk, Shohei Ohtani single, a Mookie Betts double to score Rojas, a Will Smith single to score Ohtani, and a Teoscar Hernandez groundout to score Mookie.

Three runs down, three to go.

Well they rallied again in the 8th against Reed Garrett and his sub-1 ERA, as Mookie drew a walk and Dills doubled to left, cutting the lead to 5-4.

After a flyout advanced Dills to third, it was Andy Pages somehow making contact on an 0-2 pitch that almost bounced, grounding to third and forcing a sequence of errant throw, failed pick, and successful screen by Mets batterymates for a 5-5 tie.

After a wild pitch, a strikeout for out #2, and an intentional walk, it was … Michael Conforto who singled for the lead.

That was Michael Conforto’s first hit with RISP since March 31, and first all year w/ RISP and two outs https://t.co/xSDaZBP0wC

6-5, just like everybody expected.

Tanner Scott then followed with another good outing, striking out two batters in a scoreless frame to close things out, allowing only a single on a missed location.

They will now travel to St. Louis for a three-game series against the Cardinals, starting at 2:15 PM HT/5:15 PM PT/8:15 ET. It’ll probably be Justin Wrobleski instead of a pen game against Sonny Gray.
