The Cincinnati Reds are looking to stop their losing streak after dropping each of their last four games. Tonight they’ll be playing a late one as they are on the west coast to take on the San Diego Padres, who have been scuffling in their own way as they’ve gone 2-8 in their last 10 games like the Reds. First pitch at Petco Park is scheduled for 9:40pm ET.

Starting Pitchers
Andrew Abbott
The season was tough for Abbott through his 6th start of the season when his ERA was sitting at 6.59. In the seven games since then he’s ERA is 2.25 as he’d kept the ball in the park and been able to limit the hits he’s allowed. Last time out he struggled with his control as he walked four batters in 6.0 innings against the Royals.
Right-handed hitters haven’t gone too much hitting against Abbott this season but they are making a ton of contact against him and walking more than they are striking out. Lefties are hitting for plenty of average, but they aren’t walking and aren’t hitting for any power.

Walker Buehler
A 2-time All-Star with the Dodgers, Buehler isn’t the same guy after his second Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss all of the 2023 season. He’s been below-average every season since then, though he’s currently having his best stretch since his 2024 return. In his last outing he allowed one run to the Phillies over 6.0 innings and has a 3.29 ERA over his last five starts.
Both lefties and righties are showing a lack of power against Buehler this season. The big difference is that righties are hitting for no average and are not walking along with that. Left-handed hitters are finding plenty of hits and they are walking at a good rate, too.

News and Notes
With a loss….
Cincinnati is two games under .500 right now. A loss would drop them to three under for the first time in just over a year. They were 30-33 after a loss on June 4th last season and have not been that far below .500 since.
