I actually miss recaps without much stakes, as it’s nice to relax a bit.
That said, if this was a game that mattered, I’d definitely be squeezing. The Dodgers had to cover eight innings with their pen tonight after Emmet Sheehan was removed after one due to playoff role reasons, and they somehow only gave up one run in that span to take a 3-2 win over the Mariners.
======
As mentioned, Emmet Sheehan started, and he gave up just an unearned run after an infield single and wild pitch was cashed in via this Michael Conforto disaster in left.

Other than that (besides a pickoff error), Sheehan struck out three batters.

The offense was able to strike back in the 3rd via a Dalton Rushing infield single and the 10th homer of the year from Enrique Hernandez to make it 2-1.

Starting the pen game was Justin Wrobleski, who worked around a hit batter and single in the 2nd, and a pair of singles in the 3rd thanks to this double play from Andy Pages (and the Mariners).

Will Klein followed in the 4th with a clean frame, then got two more outs in the 5th, including a strikeout of Cal Raleigh.

He did give up a walk on a bad call and a stolen base, so Anthony Banda entered after and issued an intentional walk before he got out of the jam. He continued in the 6th with a 1-2-3 frame.

The offense didn’t do a lot, but they added an insurance run in the 6th, as a Michael Conforto walk and Teoscar Hernandez single started the inning. It looked like it would be wasted, but Rushing singled with two outs to make it 3-1.

They didn’t do much else the rest of the game.

And so back to the Dodgers pen, where it was Roki Sasaki on the bump for the 7th. He threw 12 pitches in his scoreless inning, striking out two and giving up a double to the wall that Conforto again failed to make a play on afterward.

The 8th was given to Blake Treinen, who started with a pitch clock violation walk, got two outs, but then an infield single and a soft single plated a run and made it 3-2.

A steal put the go-ahead run in scoring position, but Treinen got a lineout to end it.
In the 9th it was Tanner Scott, and things started well with a pair of outs. However, a double, intentional walk, and hit by pitch loaded the bases, putting things in jeopardy. Scott did rebound with a strikeout to end the game.
Yeesh.
