Charles Barkley finished his NBA career without winning a ring. Over the years, Chuck has been belittled numerous times about it, but he has overcome those shortcomings with his post-NBA career.
Today, Barkley is one of the most beloved NBA analysts out there. But if there’s one thing that fans fail to understand, it’s his hatred for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Barkley’s recent feud with Kendrick Perkins over the LA Lakers’ current form is the perfect example of his disliking of the 17-time NBA champions.

Barkley’s back-and-forth with Perkins started when the latter claimed that the Lakers are saving the NBA, thanks to their recent stretch of excellent games.
But the Chuckster not only wrote it off as a two-week fluke but called Perkins an “idiot.” Amid his battle with Big Perk, veteran NBA analyst Nick Wright explained why Barkley is wrong with his take.
“Listen, everybody loves Chuck, but we’ve gotta be honest here. ALL YEAR he’s said the Lakers stink. Not that they’re not the best team in the league. That they’re bad/irrelevant,” Wright wrote on X.
“ALL YEAR he’s minimized anything they’ve done. Then, they trade for Luka and NO ONE was more adamant that it wouldn’t work and that the Mavs were better off this year,” he added.
Wright then called out Barkley’s hypocrisy regarding his takes on the Lakers.
“Now, that they’re 2nd in the West, and have been the best team in the league for the last 6 weeks, he says they’ve had a good “2 weeks” and we still shouldn’t talk about them.
For context, the Lakers are now 40-21 following their recent win over the New York Knicks. However, Barkley still refuses to acknowledge their talent.
‘Beloved’ analyst needs to admit his mistake, says Wright
Wright gave Barkley his flowers as arguably the most beloved and funniest analyst in the NBA media right now. But he further took a dig at Chuck’s stance on the Lakers.
“It’s disingenuous ________ from someone who doesn’t want to admit he’s been wrong about this team every step of the way and it’s OK to say that, despite the fact he’s the funniest/most beloved person in sports TV history,” Wright concluded.
Being right and wrong is part of Barkley’s and the rest of the top analysts’ job. However, it feels like the NBA legend can’t put aside his ego and see the truth with an honest pair of eyes.
Will Barkley finally accept his mistake, or will he continue to become a punching bag for the rest of the media? Only time will tell.
