“That’s the only thing I hate about LeBron. First of all, he’s a great, great player. He’s an amazing person. He’s a really nice guy,” Barkley explained.
“But, for him and his guys, if you don’t say he’s the greatest ever, it’s like you’ve committed treason.”
Barkley suggested the GOAT conversation should expand beyond focusing on select players or centering discussions around LeBron exclusively.
The criticism reflects broader tensions about how GOAT discussions are conducted and whether certain perspectives are being suppressed in favor of particular narratives.

Barkley argued that Kareem’s complete basketball resume across all levels deserves greater recognition.
“You can’t even mention Michael, Kobe, Bill Russell, Kareem… there’s a faction of Kareem people. I actually feel like Kareem is the one guy who gets left out. Nobody has a better career, high school, college, and pro, than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,” Barkley stated.
It’s interesting because another NBA insider also believes that LeBron deserves a mega retirement like Kareem’s by the end of his career.
The ongoing tension between Barkley and LeBron isn’t new, as the analyst previously claimed he could defeat James if both were in their primes.
