Curry Series 7 “World Tour”

Adam Silver eying an European arm of the NBA underlines something that grows in validity with each passing day: the modern NBA superstar is a global commodity. Steph Curry’s foothold in Asia is so serious that his last go-around with Curry Brand had about half of its events checked off the calendar on account of public safety concerns; the public turnout so far beyond initial expectations that it threw the whole initiative off kilter. Perhaps wizened by that maiden voyage or simply aiming to give back to its attendees this time around, Stephen Curry and Under Armour will have a “World Tour” variation of the Curry Series 7 in tow for this year.

The eccentric multi-color palette here is certainly worthy of note, pinning royal purple throughout the breathable upper and a variety of primary tones within the sole unit. However, especially as we continue to chalk off debut looks for the Curry Series 7, the actual construction remains very much of note.

The model as a whole is said to take inspiration from super shoes, and these shots depicting a sole unit that flares out at the heel and toe while slimming down dramatically at the midfoot make that clear. As does the propulsion plate in the center and thick midsole, carrying stronger echoes of mile-eaters than of basketball peers. Finally, the ridged, sharpened geometry of the sole compares favorably to the equally novel Curry Fox 2, clearly stamping a school of thought that cohesively defines UA and Curry Brand’s latest chapter.

To note some of the intrigue with the naming convention here, the UA Curry Brand Series 7 isn’t the seventh step in an offshoot category. Instead, the moniker comes from the length of a playoff series. While unofficial, you can also draw some comparisons to the overall shape of the Curry 7, potentially presenting this modern silhouette as a reinterpretation of Steph’s established legacy.

The UA Curry Series 7 “World Tour” releases on August 22nd, retailing for $160.
