Nike Kobe 3 Protro Halo Release Date 2025

Kobe Bryant’s third signature Nike Basketball model is finally entering the Protro canon. Discounting 2016’s “Fade To Black” release, this is the first Nike Kobe 3 in twelve years and first ever Kobe 3 Protro. The Mamba’s third signature model debuted during Kobe’s lone MVP year in 2007-08 and concluded the era of mid-cut Kobe Bryant shoes, save for the Kobe 9 Elite. Nike designer Eric Avar gave the sneaker a webbed upper inspired by a basketball net; a reference that also factors into the traction.

The Kobe 3 Protro is a product of meticulous revision and wear testing. It’s got a full-length Zoom strobel, Cushlon 3.0 midsole, and improved traction/mesh upper. Per Kobe Footwear Product Director Jeni Takekawa, “It’s the first time we’ve overhauled the outsole, midsole, and upper together in a Protro.” Hailey Dunham, Nike Basketball Footwear Product Testing Analyst, says “We tested the OG against our Protro sample, and 12 out of 15 testers preferred the Protro. That’s when we knew we had something special.”

The Kobe 3 Protro “Halo” continues a series that began in 2023, following Kobe 8, Kobe 9 Elite, and Kobe 9 Elite Low releases of the same name. Arriving on what would be the late legend’s 47th birthday, the next “Halo” Kobe takes after its predecessors with a crisp, essentially all-white colorway. Nike notes that on top of being a performance upgrade, the shoe’s new traction is intended to honors Kobe’s oldest daughter’s middle name, Diamanté.
