Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may have just offered the first clue about what’s next for his signature footwear line. The reigning MVP and Converse Basketball star recently shared a cryptic teaser on his Instagram Stories that is a bit of a shocker because it strongly suggests that Converse is partnering with Nike for what’s next.
The brief animation begins with Gilgeous-Alexander’s personal Converse logo spinning on an axle. As the logo accelerates, it suddenly transforms into a pair of Nike Swooshes before quickly reverting back to its original form. The sequence lasts only a moment, but it does little to hide it.
Given Converse’s ownership under the Nike umbrella, crossover projects between the two brands aren’t unheard of; we’ve seen it happen on a number of occasions for Devin Booker’s signature shoe line, such as the much-lauded Nike Book 1 “Chuck Taylor” PE. That said, incorporating the Swoosh directly into the teaser for a signature athlete suggests that some form of Converse x Nike collaboration could be tied to the launch of Shai’s next release. Whether it be a special edition of the SHAI 001 or the upcoming SHAI 002 remains to be seen.
