College coaches across the country might argue that UConn’s Dan Hurley wrote the book on innovative offense.
Now, he’s written a book about his life.
“Never Stop: Life, Leadership and What It Takes To Be Great,” written by Hurley and co-authored by sportswriter Ian O’Connor, is set to come out on Sept. 16. The book will be published by Avid Reader Press.
“I’ve confronted a lot of adversity on my life’s journey and I’m proud to share those stories–along with my leadership philosophies in building championship teams at UConn – in my book ‘Never Stop,’” Hurley wrote in a post on X Thursday. “I’m writing this to help people overcome & succeed.”
O’Connor, a former columnist and senior writer for ESPN.com, The New York Daily News, and USA Today, has also written bestselling books on Mike Krzyzewski, Bill Belichick, Derek Jeter and Aaron Rodgers.
“Never thought I’d collaborate with anyone on a book. But Dan Hurley has a profound personal story & I was fascinated by how his holistic behind-the-scenes approach & volatile coaching style made Gen Z kids champions. Been a blast working w/ Dan,” O’Connor wrote on X.
The book details Hurley’s run to back-to-back national championships at UConn and his “life-changing decision”: whether or not to stay with the Huskies or jump to the NBA with a job offer from the Los Angeles Lakers.
It also delves into his mental health struggles, detailing a “battle with mental health so severe that he once contemplated suicide,” according to the preview on the book publisher’s website.
