Gennadiy Golovkin appearing alongside Abel Sanchez again in Cairo has reignited talk that one final comeback fight may still be possible years after one of boxing’s most surprising trainer splits.
Tom Loeffler shared an image from Egypt following Oleksandr Usyk’s victory over Rico Verhoeven showing himself alongside Golovkin and Sanchez together once again.
“Great trip to Cairo capped off by this photo at the airport with GGG and Abel Sanchez. We accomplished so much together,” Loeffler wrote.
“Will be great to see GGG inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this year. Well deserved for sure.”
The reunion immediately stood out given how abruptly the Golovkin and Sanchez partnership ended back in 2019.
At the time, the split shocked many throughout boxing after Sanchez helped transform Golovkin from an avoided middleweight destroyer into one of the biggest stars in the sport during a dominant decade-long run together.

The Sanchez split initially surprised everyone, especially WBN, who had been in constant contact with Sanchez for years and always sensed how close the pair were.
To find out GGG had moved on following the Canelo loss came as a shock to many, with Sanchez clearly hurt by the abrupt ending.
Sanchez did not hide his frustration at the time either, telling WBN the breakup came because “big contracts create greed in ungrateful, dishonorable people” after Golovkin signed his DAZN deal.
Years later, Sanchez also revealed to WBN that the pair had “no contact” following the split and admitted he felt saddened by the quiet way Golovkin drifted away from the sport after the trilogy defeat to Canelo Alvarez.
That history is what makes the Cairo reunion feel significant.
Golovkin had already been linked to comeback rumors before attending the Usyk vs Verhoeven event as a guest of Turki Alalshikh, who would undoubtedly have the power to stage one final blockbuster should the former middleweight king decide he wants another fight.
GGG Comeback Rumors
Seven years on, the possibility of one final fight may now offer Golovkin and Sanchez the chance to come full circle and end their Hall of Fame run the right way.
Nothing about a comeback has been discussed publicly.
However, seeing Golovkin and Sanchez together again after years apart will inevitably spark speculation that unfinished business still remains between one of boxing’s greatest fighter-trainer partnerships.
