Haney Rejects Romero’s Triangle Theory After Ryan Claim

The comment came while Rolly, 30, was discussing Haney and the possibility of the two 147-lb champions meeting in the ring.

Haney responded on social media today after the comments circulated online, rejecting Romero’s argument and saying results involving other fighters do not determine the outcome of a future fight.

“Triangle theories don’t work in boxing,” Haney said on X. “Rolly will get bodied by me.”

The former undisputed lightweight champion Haney then mocked the logic further by listing a chain of results involving several fighters.

“Rolly got bodied by Barroso, Barroso got bodied O’Hara Davies, Davies got bodied by Josh Taylor, Taylor got bodied by Teo, Teo got bodied by Kambosos, all leads back to ME,” Haney said.

The exchange comes as the two fighters continue discussions about a possible unification fight at welterweight. Rolly holds the WBA title, while Haney owns the WBO belt, creating the potential for a two-belt bout if negotiations are completed.

A fight between the two champions has been discussed for later this year, although neither side has confirmed that a contract has been finalized.

Devin would likely enter the fight as the clear favorite against Rolly (17-2, 13 KOs), who moved up to welterweight after competing earlier in his career at lighter weights.

Romero defeated Ryan Garcia by a 12-round unanimous decision on May 2, 2025, a result that increased attention around potential fights at welterweight. The fight took place in New York and marked one of the biggest wins of Romero’s career.

He has not fought since that victory while exploring possible high-profile bouts.

One issue surrounding Romero’s schedule involves his overdue mandatory defense against Shakhram Giyasov. The Uzbek contender has been the WBA’s leading challenger for an extended period, yet the title fight has not been ordered or finalized.

It remains unclear whether the WBA will allow Romero to move directly into a unification bout with Haney without first meeting Giyasov. Sanctioning bodies sometimes permit champions to postpone mandatory defenses for unification fights, though no decision has been announced.

The negotiations between Haney and Romero remain ongoing.
