Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are set to face each other in a mega fight later on in the year.
The pound-for-pound superstars have been negotiating a fight since the end of 2024, with Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh at the forefront of discussions between both fighters camps.
It has been speculated that the Mexican icon will clash with ‘Bud’ in September, with Las Vegas the probable location. The initial target date was the beginning of May, but it now looks likelier that the super middleweight showdown will take place at the back end of the year.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, former opponent of both men, Amir Khan, who moved up from welterweight to middleweight to face Canelo has urged ‘Bud’ not to to do the same, claiming there are weight classes in place for a reason.
“You know what, I love both fighters and even though I fought them, but you know when you fight them and we had all the build up, it was nothing but respectful.
“I just feel like you know in boxing weight divisions are made there for a purpose, and I highly respect and say the best pound-for-pound fighter is Crawford, by far, he beats anyone.
“But when you start putting weight on and you go up a weight and you fight these guys like Canelo, even though Canelo might be getting a bit older and he might be slowing down a bit, he’s still gonna be very dangerous.
I would advise him not to go for it.”
Khan suffered sixth-round knockout defeats to both men, losing to Canelo in 2016 and Crawford three years later.
An official announcement on a showdown between both fighters is expected to be made very soon, as boxing fans await news of one of the biggest fight’s in boxing history.
