Martin Dubravka Tottenham move confirmed: the vastly experienced Slovakia goalkeeper will join Spurs on a free transfer this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a free transfer once his contract with Burnley expires on 1 July. The 37-year-old played 35 times for the Clarets in the Premier League last season and brings almost two decades of senior experience to north London.

A fourth summer signing for De Zerbi

Dubravka becomes Roberto De Zerbi’s fourth signing of the window. He follows defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, who both arrived on free transfers, and Netherlands defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who joined from Brighton for a reported 52 million pounds. The arrivals continue a clear effort to add know-how and stability after back-to-back 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League.

Spurs have not been quiet elsewhere either. Last week, Newcastle United rejected an offer worth about 80 million pounds for midfielder Sandro Tonali, underlining the scale of De Zerbi’s intended rebuild.

A proven Premier League shot-stopper

Dubravka is a reliable presence between the posts, having made 197 Premier League appearances and registered 51 clean sheets. A renowned shot-stopper who is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, he secured a Premier League Save of the Month award in October last season for a remarkable stop against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

What it means for Vicario and Kinsky

The signing arrives amid uncertainty over the future of Italy goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has attracted interest from Serie A clubs. Both Vicario and Antonin Kinsky spent time as Spurs’ number one last season.

Kinsky, 23, finished the campaign as first choice and produced a stunning save against Leeds United that proved vital in keeping De Zerbi’s side in the Premier League. His form was a swift turnaround from March, when he was replaced in the 17th minute of the Champions League last-16 tie at Atletico Madrid after conceding three goals. Dubravka’s experience and strong mentality will add genuine competition to that mix.

From Zilina to north London

A third-generation goalkeeper, following his father and grandfather, Dubravka began his professional journey with hometown club MSK Zilina, helping them to two Slovak Superliga titles and a maiden Champions League group-stage qualification in 2010/11. Spells at Esbjerg fB, Slovan Liberec and Sparta Prague followed before his first taste of the Premier League with Newcastle United in January 2018, a loan that turned permanent that summer.

On Tyneside he made 88 consecutive Premier League appearances and was named the club’s Player of the Year for 2019/20 after recording the most saves in the division. A short loan at Manchester United in 2022/23 brought a Carabao Cup winners’ medal, and back at Newcastle he was a winner again as the side ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy, keeping clean sheets in both League Cup semi-final legs against Arsenal. He joined Burnley in August 2025 and has been capped 60 times by Slovakia, featuring at UEFA Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.

What they said

“It’s an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. Everything moved pretty quickly and I’m really happy to be here. I’ve loved watching Roberto’s teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.” – Martin Dubravka

“I am very happy because Martin is a goalkeeper with big experience and a strong mentality. He has very important qualities for me and will bring balance, leadership and competitiveness to our dressing room.” – Roberto De Zerbi

Sporting Director Johan Lange added that Dubravka is a goalkeeper of proven quality at the highest level, whose character and professionalism will strengthen the squad and align with what the club is building.
