Real Madrid fine Valverde and Tchouameni €500k each for fracas

Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have been fined €500,000 each by Real Madrid for their part in a confrontation that left the former requiring hospital treatment.

The incident occurred yesterday, 24 hours after an initial disagreement between the two midfielders.

Madrid say both men have apologised to each other, as well as the club, and the internal investigation is now closed.

A club statement read: “Real Madrid announces that, after the events that prompted the opening yesterday of a disciplinary file on our players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, both have appeared today before the before the investigator assigned to the case.

“During this appearance, the players have shown their total regret for what happened and have apologized to each other.

“Likewise, they have transferred their apologies to the club, their team-mates, the coaching staff and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept the sanction that the club deems appropriate.

“Given these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial sanction of €500,000 on each player, thus concluding the internal investigation.”

Valverde hospitalised but denies punches were thrown

Initial reports emerged yesterday afternoon of a training ground incident involving Valverde and Tchouameni. Real Madrid later confirmed an investigation had been opened and said the Uruguay international was at home after being briefly hospitalised due to a cranioencephalic trauma, a form of concussion.

There were suggestions the pair had become embroiled in a brawl but Valverde took to social media last night to deny punches were thrown.

He wrote: “Yesterday I had an incident with a team-mate during a training session. The fatigue from competition and the frustration made everything seem blown out of proportion. In a normal locker room, these things can happen and are usually resolved internally without it becoming public knowledge.

“Clearly, someone here is spreading rumours, and with a season without titles, where Real Madrid is always under scrutiny, everything gets blown out of proportion. Today we had another disagreement.

“During the argument, I accidentally hit a table, causing a small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital. At no point did my team-mate hit me, and I didn’t hit him either, although I understand it’s easier for you to believe we came to blows or that it was intentional, but that didn’t happen.”

Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid

Valverde-Tchouameni clash the latest scandal to engulf Real Madrid

An emergency meeting involving club president Florentino Perez, head coach Alvaro Arbeloa and captain Dani Carvajal was reportedly held yesterday evening with this incident following on from other issues at the Spanish giants in recent weeks.

Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Carreras have all hit the headlines for the wrong reasons with the soap opera being played out in front of the media. Mundo Depotivo reported this morning that they believe Vinicius Jr is the dressing room mole that has been leaking the stories to the press.

Next up for Madrid is a horribly timed clash with a Barcelona side who will be enjoying the chaos that has unfolded at their arch rivals.

Barca need just a point to clinch the Liga title on Sunday.
