On the weekend that Formula 1 announced it will continue to race in Miami until at least 2041, the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend attracted 275,000 spectators.

The 2025 Miami Grand Prix welcomed a 3-day attendance of 275,000 F1 fans, equalling the largest figure at the event since it first joined the calendar in 2022. It is the same total as attended the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. The record-equalling attendance coincided with news that the Miami Grand Prix will continue to appear on the calendar until at least 2041 under a new contract extension signed at the start of the race weekend.

Record Attendance Equalled at 2025 Miami Grand Prix

When the Miami Grand Prix first joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2022, a total of just under 243,000 fans attended over the three days of the race weekend. That figure grew to 270,000 in 2023 and reached 275,000 for the first time in 2024.

Capacity has increased at Miami International Autodrome since the inaugural race, with grandstand capacity being expanded for the race’s second and third appearances on the calendar. Capacity is now believed to be around 100,000, meaning that a total 3-day attendance of 300,000 is theoretically possible.

The Miami Grand Prix is the least-attended of the three American races on the calendar. The United States Grand Prix – staged annually at Circuit of The Americas since 2012 – welcomes a weekend crowd upward of 300,000, while the Las Vegas Grand Prix – which joined the schedule one year after the Miami race – attracted 306,000 fans in total in 2024.

The Miami Grand Prix attendance figure continues a strong start to the 2025 Formula 1 season. Aside from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix – for which an attendance figure has not yet been announced – every race so far has attracted a larger weekend crowd in 2025 than it did in 2024.

The Australian Grand Prix currently leads the way as the best-attended, having attracted a weekend crowd of over 465,000 – a new record for the Melbourne race. In 2024, 17 races sold out, with 10 setting new attendance records.

F1 to Race in Miami Until 2041

On Friday, Formula 1 confirmed that the Miami Grand Prix will continue to appear on the calendar until at least 2041. The event already had a contract to appear on the schedule until 2031 but Formula 1 and race organisers agreed an early 10-year contract extension.

The Miami Grand Prix now holds the longest contract of any current circuit and is the first event to be confirmed into the 2040s. The previous longest was at the Australian Grand Prix, where racing is set to continue at Albert Park until at least 2037.

Speaking about the new Miami Grand Prix contract, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said:

“In just three years, the Miami Grand Prix has established itself as one of the most important and spectacular events on our calendar, an extraordinary example of quality and vision that truly represents the spirit and ambition of Formula 1 in the United States.

Extending this agreement until 2041 is a strategic milestone of enormous importance, which strengthens our presence in America and consolidates the ever-deepening bond with our fan base there, which is constantly growing and passionate like never before.

Miami is not only an extraordinary city, but also a truly global sporting hub, energetic, dynamic and culturally vibrant. All this would not have been possible without the far-sighted vision and tireless commitment of Stephen Ross and Tom Garfinkel, to whom I extend my sincere gratitude for the leadership, support and dedication with which they have helped transform the Miami Grand Prix into a world-class event.”

The Miami Grand Prix is one of two events to have extended its contract in the past week. Earlier in the weekend, Mexico City Grand Prix organisers confirmed that the Mexican race will continue to be held annually until 2028. The news means that it is highly likely that Imola will miss out on a place on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar.
