Smash hit F1 The Movie has received no fewer than four nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards (Oscars).
Due to take place in Hollywood on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the prestigious annual event recognises the very best in film – from the actors and actresses involved to the writing, direction, music and much more.
The movie, which hit cinemas last summer and grossed more than $630 million worldwide, has been nominated under the ‘Best Picture’, ‘Visual Effects’, ‘Sound’ and ‘Film Editing’ categories.
It was directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (both Top Gun: Maverick), Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt and seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, among several other respected names.
Pitt stars as former F1 driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the sport to partner rookie team mate Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, at the fictional APXGP team – slotting alongside the existing 10 squads up and down the pit lane.
Following its cinema release, F1 The Movie is now available to watch on Apple TV.
“I’ve been trying to get a racing movie done for 20 years,” said Pitt when the movie launched. “I’ve tried bikes, I’ve tried cars, I’ve tried different disciplines, and for whatever reason they never came to fruition.
“We got a great push behind us, people were more and more interested [in F1], so we could get [a company] like Apple to come in and really support us.
“It was Joe and Jerry, just coming off [filming] Maverick, who said, ‘We want to make the most realistic racing movie we’ve seen to date’, and I think that’s what we’ve done.”
