Miami Grand Prix promoter South Florida Motorsports has won the coveted Promoter of the Year award at the annual Formula 1 Promoter Awards.
Organisers of the Miami Grand Prix have been awarded the Promoter of the Year award at the Formula 1 Promoter Awards. The annual event recognises the contributions made by those responsible for organising each Grand Prix on the calendar, highlighting areas from sustainability to event spectacle and fan experience.
The event, which took place at the Natural History Museum in London, was attended by representatives from all 24 Grands Prix. It took place one day after all ten F1 teams and all 20 drivers gathered in London for F1 75 Live at the O2 to unveil their liveries for the upcoming 2025 season.
Miami Grand Prix Wins Top Award
The top award at the Formula 1 Promoter Awards is the Promoter of the Year Award, which recognises the best all-round event of the previous season. It celebrates the race which “embodied the F1 mission statement to deliver the world’s greatest sports and entertainment spectacle”.
After being awarded to the Dutch Grand Prix last year, the award was claimed by South Florida Motorsports – promoter of the Miami Grand Prix – for their 2024 race. Miami Grand Prix Managing Partner, Tom Garfinkel, who collected the award, said:
“On behalf of Stephen Ross and our team in Miami, I want to express our sincere gratitude to Formula 1 and Stefano Domenicali for the honour of being named the Promoter of the Year. It’s humbling to be recognised with so many great promoters out there who have welcomed us to a sport that we love and set a standard that inspires us. I’m very proud of the team of people that we have who work so hard to make this a great event, especially our President, Tyler Epp. We hope to continue raising the bar and furthering the growth of Formula 1 in the United States.”
The Miami Grand Prix returns for its fourth appearance on the Formula 1 calendar in 2025. The weekend will again run to F1’s Sprint format, which offers an additional, shorter race on Saturday. Last year’s race was won by Lando Norris, who secured his maiden Grand Prix victory with McLaren.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Jenson Button’s 2009 title-winning Brawn GP car will be auctioned by Bonhams in a collaboration with South Florida Motorsports over the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend. Tickets for the race are on sale now.
Other Winners at the Formula 1 Promoter Awards
A total of seven awards were handed out throughout the evening at the Formula 1 Promoter Awards, with race organisers in Abu Dhabi, Australia, Belgium, Mexico and Singapore also honoured.
F1’s promoters have been recognised with their own award since the Race Promoters’ Trophy was first introduced in 1975. It was previously named the FOCA Award. In the 2010s, the Mexican Grand Prix dominated the prize-giving, winning the accolade in every season from the event’s return in 2015 through to 2019.
The Mexican race was awarded once more for its 2024 event, for which it won the Opening and Closing Show award. The event was recognised for its pre-race driver presentations and the overall spectacle in the lead up to the race, which featured mariachi bands and local dancers.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – with its nightly headline concerts and epic end-of-season firework display – picked up the award for Event Spectacle, while the Singapore Grand Prix was recognised for Fan Experience, thanks to its expansive entertainment offering, innovative wayfinding and clear branding.
Promoters’ sustainability efforts were also under the spotlight, with the Belgian Grand Prix taking the Innovative ESG Activation award. The promoter had ensured comprehensive low-carbon travel options were on offer for fans at the event, while the recycling strategy meant that all waste was diverted from landfill. Meanwhile, the Australian Grand Prix won the Community Changemaker award, thanks to its social impact programme which encompassed “local community engagement, accessibility initiatives, and celebration of native culture”.
Rachel Rong, of the Chinese Grand Prix, was the recipient of the Pole Position award, which recognises an individual who “went above and beyond in 2024 to help deliver an outstanding event”.
Speaking about the award ceremony, Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said:
“Our promoters provide the incredible backdrop to our sport, and their hard work, creativity, and innovation are central to Formula 1’s success. As the sport continues to grow, we have a responsibility to deliver bigger, better, and more sustainable events for our fans—a challenge that I know drives our promoter teams every day. Congratulations to Miami, as well as all the other winners and nominees. I look forward to seeing the incredible work you do this year to take your events to the next level.”
