Racing Bulls tech boss Egginton moves to new role at Red Bull

Jody Egginton, the long-standing technical director of Racing Bulls, is set to leave the Faenza-based squad to take up a new role within the Red Bull family at Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

The announcement marks the end of an era for the 51-year-old Briton, whose tenure with the team – formerly known as Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri – has spanned over a decade and played a pivotal role in its development.

Egginton’s departure from the F1 paddock signals a shift in focus as he transitions to a fresh challenge in Red Bull’s technology division, leaving his engineering legacy at Racing Bulls in capable hands.

Egginton joined Toro Rosso in 2014 and assumed the role of technical director in 2019, guiding the Anglo-Italian outfit through a period of transformation and growth.

His exit will see his responsibilities absorbed by existing team members, with former FIA official Tim Goss stepping up as chief technical officer alongside deputies Guillaume Cattelani and Andrea Landi, who oversee car performance and design, respectively.

The move ensures continuity at Racing Bulls while allowing Egginton to explore new horizons within the broader Red Bull ecosystem.

A Storied Career and a Fond Farewell

Reflecting on his time with Racing Bulls, Egginton expressed gratitude for the journey and excitement for what lies ahead.

“Being part of this team for over 10 years has been a fantastic experience for me, providing some very memorable moments,” he said.

His career in F1, which spans almost 20 years, includes stints at iconic teams such as Tyrrell, various iterations of Force India, and Lotus before he found a long-term home at Faenza.

However, after such an extensive focus on the sport, Egginton feels ready for a change.

“After almost 20 years of focusing solely on Formula 1, I feel it’s time for a change,” he explained.

“I will have a great remit as Engineering Director of Red Bull Advanced Technologies and the company currently has an exciting list of projects, so I can’t wait to get started on this new challenge.”

Egginton’s move to Red Bull Advanced Technologies – a division known for its cutting-edge engineering projects beyond motorsport – offers a chance to apply his expertise to a diverse array of initiatives.

While he steps away from the high-pressure world of F1, his continued affiliation with Red Bull underscores the trust and value placed in his technical acumen.

Mekies Lauds Egginton’s Legacy

Racing Bulls team principal Laurent Mekies was effusive in his praise for Egginton, highlighting the significant impact the technical director had on the squad’s trajectory.

“As our long-serving technical director, he has been instrumental in driving innovation and fostering team growth,” Mekies said.

“I want to thank Jody for his expertise and the important contribution he has made to the team and the company’s upward trajectory.

“We wish him all the best for this new challenge within the Red Bull family.”

Under Egginton’s technical leadership, Racing Bulls evolved from its midfield roots as Toro Rosso into a more competitive outfit, often punching above its weight in the fiercely contested F1 landscape.

His departure closes a chapter defined by innovation and resilience, but Mekies’ comments suggest confidence in the team’s ability to build on that foundation moving forward.

For Racing Bulls, the transition offers an opportunity to refine its technical structure while maintaining the momentum Egginton helped establish.

As the team and its former technical director part ways within the Red Bull fold, both look poised to write the next chapters of their respective stories with ambition and determination.
