No One Does Limited-Edition Drivers Like COBRA!

I love Limited-Edition Season.

It means many things. First, it means Launch Season is over. Well, almost over.

Second, it means spring is sorta-kinda almost around the corner. After living through last week’s Snowmageddon here in New England, any hint of warmth, no matter how fleeting, feeds the soul.

And third, it means COBRA gets to flex its limited-edition chops.

No one, and I mean no one, does limited-edition drivers like COBRA. While their Masters-themed driver is always amazing and its U.S. Open-themed driver will no doubt be as well, I love-love-love the fact that COBRA pays homage to Arnold Palmer and the Bay Hill Classic every year with an Arnie-themed driver.

This year’s COBRA x Arnold Palmer driver is the new OPTM X. Let’s check it out.

COBRA GOLF x Arnold Palmer OPTM X driver

This new limited-edition driver is in every meaningful way exactly the same as the standard COBRA OPTM X driver released earlier this year. The only difference is the big one: it’s all dressed up for Bay Hill.

COBRA outfitted the Arnie Special (my words, not theirs. It fits, though, doesn’t it?) in a sweet navy blue finish with contrasting gold accents. Arnie’s signature umbrella logo makes plenty of subtle appearances on the driver. Several decorate the sole (along with a reproduction of Arnie’s actual signature) and the umbrella alignment logo is both understated and sublime.

A matching barrel-style headcover rounds out the package nicely.

COBRA OPTM X basics

Sadly, the COBRA OPTM X was not a standout performer in this year’s MyGolfSpy driver test. It finished middle of the pack for ball speed, carry and total distance and performed below average in accuracy and forgiveness.

It features COBRA’s POI (product of inertia) shaping as well as COBRA’s FUTUREFIT33™ 33-way adjustable hosel. We covered POI in our OPTM launch story in January but the short take is that POI measures how a clubhead rotates diagonally across all axes at once. A low POI matched with a high MOI control gear effect and delivers tighter downrange dispersion.

COBRA GOLF x Arnold Palmer OPTM X driver: Specs, price and availability

The limited-edition COBRA GOLF x Arnold Palmer OPTM X driver is available online and through select retailers starting today. It’s available in right-handed only, in a 10.5-degree adjustable head.

It includes the limited-edition headcover and comes with a Mitsubishi 1K Tensei Blue shaft.

It sells for $699.
