Paddy Pimblett back in the gym awaiting next opponent

Lightweight star Paddy Pimblett isn’t sure who he’ll face next, or when that fight will be, but “‘The Baddy” is back in the gym preparing for it.

“It’s good to have Paddy back in. So, he’s only just starting really, so we’re not overdoing anything. We’re doing a bit of volume, getting him back to it, managing all the injuries we’ve dealt with in the past with a bit of work as well,” said Pimblett’s coach, Paul Rimmer, on Pimblett’s YouTube channel.

“We’re not rushing anything at the moment. We’re getting him ready for whenever that announcement comes and when we switch him on, but he’s just ticking over now like they all should do.”

Pimblett (23-3) last fought in April, defeating Michael Chandler via third-round TKO at UFC 314.

“Not going too heavy on stuff, working around a couple of injuries and getting back to strength,” said Pimblett. “Don’t know when the next fight is going to be. We’re just building towards it, waiting, trying to find out. So, when we know, you will know.”

“Paddy’s been back for a couple of weeks from America, back training regular every day, helping his teammates out who’ve got fights coming up, slowly but surely bringing his weight down, getting back in shape” said Pimblett’s striking coach Ellis Hamson. “So, hopefully some big fight news coming soon.”

Pimblett’s training, at the moment, is focused on improving. Once he has an opponent, the training will shift to most specific, strategic preparation.

“We start working like general improvements rather than specific things for an opponent,” said Rimmer. “Focusing a lot on growing them skillsets at the minute. Once we get an opponent and we’ve got a date, we can work on more specific things for the opponent.”

Pimblett’s team is expecting to be back in action in December or early next year against a Top 5 ranked opponent, or perhaps even for the title.
