Duke Basketball projected to have a top offense in 2026-27 season

The Duke Blue Devils’ 2025-26 college basketball season finished in disappointment, blowing a 17-point lead to UConn in the Elite Eight. All season long, Duke was considered a national title contender due to their excellent offense and defense.

Jon Scheyer’s team was great on both ends of the floor, helping them win the Atlantic Coast Conference again and earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

As the focus has shifted to this season, we are now officially under 100 days until the start of the new campaign. And with that, CBS Sports’ Isaac Trotter put together a list of 101 things for the upcoming season. Among them were the teams he believes will have the top offenses in college basketball next season.

To no one’s surprise, Duke made the list. Here is what Trotter wrote about the Blue Devils and the potential for their offense in 2206-27:

Jon Scheyer has built his offenses around a generational 4-man like Cooper Flagg or Cameron Boozer in each of the past two seasons. It got another one in the pipeline in prized freshman big man Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje. While Boumtje-Boumtje is a tantalizing prospect who will show major flashes, building an offense around a 17-year-old is unlikely.

There’s a good chance that Wisconsin transfer lead guard John Blackwell is the fulcrum of this offense. How does Jon Scheyer shape-shift it? It’s hard not to trust this staff to press the right buttons offensively. Duke uses non-shooters as spacers in excellent ways to clear driving lanes, and the quartet of Blackwell, Cayden Boozer, Caleb Foster and five-star freshman Deron Rippey Jr. gives Scheyer four guards who can boogie to the rim at will.

Duke has multiple bigs who can pass, multiple shooters, plenty of athleticism and the deepest point guard room in the land. If high-upside youngsters like Boumtje-Boumjte or Cameron Williams pop, Duke will be a shoo-in to finish in the top-10 offensively for the fourth straight season.

Duke returns production from last season with Cayden Boozer, Dame Sarr, Patrick Ngongba, and Caleb Foster among others returning. But the addition for their transfer portal class as well as the top recruiting class in the country should help.

The offense for Duke should be another strong point for them this season. That alone should make them a contender in the ACC and they will be one of the preseason favorites once again.
