The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have landed a commitment from one of the more intriguing players in the college basketball transfer portal this offseason.
That would be Colby Garland, who committed to Georgia Tech on Tuesday morning.
Garland is Georgia Tech’s fifth portal addition this offseason, and he’s going to be a big part of the rebuild led by new head coach Scott Cross.
Cross was hired by Georgia Tech to replace Damon Stoudamire, who didn’t make the NCAA Tournament once as head coach in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Cross had led Troy to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and back-to-back Sun Belt regular-season championships.
Garland was a third-team All-Mountain West player last season for the San Jose State Spartans. In 29 games, including 27 starts, he averaged 20.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.
He averaged 49.0% shooting from the field and 37.2% from three-point range.
