On3 national basketball reporter Joe Tipton logged an expert prediction for Wisconsin transfer guard John Blackwell to choose the Duke Blue Devils on Monday.
The timing of the prediction is notable, as Blackwell visited Duke earlier in the day. Tipton wasn’t the only college basketball insider to predict such a conclusion on Monday night; 247Sports Duke insiders John Watson and Chad Lykins also both logged crystal ball predictions for Duke.

Blackwell’s trip to Duke followed a recent visit to UCLA. While the top-ranked transfer is also set to travel to Louisville later this week, insiders are signaling that Duke is closing in on a commitment. 247Sports lists Blackwell as a five-star transfer prospect. He’s specifically ranked as the No. 3 player in the portal and the top shooting guard.
Blackwell could soon look to translate his career-best totals from last season, 33.8 minutes, 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game, to Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke is fresh off three consecutive Elite Eight appearances. However, the program is still looking for its first national title since 2015, when it defeated Wisconsin in the national title game.
Wisconsin fans would need to get used to Blackwell in a Duke jersey. At the least, he appears unlikely to transfer to a Big Ten rival.

Meanwhile, the Badgers have been busy in the portal as of late, most recently with the commitment of Miami (OH) wing Eian Elmer. Greg Gard will enter 2026-27 with yet another transfer-heavy lineup, looking to reach the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2017.
