OU football OC Ben Arbuckle details QB John Mateer’s recovery process

There’s belief that OU quarterback John Mateer’s return is possible against Texas, as he’s reacted well to the surgery he underwent just less than two weeks ago.

The heated Red River Rivalry game is this weekend, and fans will be pouring into the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the annual OU-Texas face-off.

However, fans used to attending games at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium or Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium may need to be mindful of bag or alcohol policies that differ from their home stadium.

The No. 6 Oklahoma (5-0) is undefeated in the 2025 season and is coming off a dominating 44-0 non-conference win over Kent State at home. Texas was upset by Florida at the Swamp 29-21 and is unranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 2022, after starting the season at No. 1.

Avoid being barred at the entrance or being ejected at the Red River Rivalry game this Saturday by adhering to the Cotton Bowl’s rules.

The following policies apply to the stadium, not necessarily to the Texas State Fair Park:

Cotton Bowl prohibited items

Before heading to the Cotton Bowl, make sure not to bring the following:

Outside drinks and/or foodBaby seats and strollersBackpacks and large bagsBanners and signsBeach ballsFolding chairsLaser pointersExplosives

Check the Fair Park website for a complete list of prohibited items.

Cotton Bowl stadium bag policy

The only bags admitted into the Cotton Bowl are clear bags and totes within 12” X 6” X 12” measurements, one-gallon clear resealable plastic storage bags and small clutch bags or purses that do not exceed 4.5” X 6.5.” The smaller bags do not need to be clear.

Medical devices are permitted upon inspection at the entrance.

Cotton Bowl alcohol policy

Fans over 21 are allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages at Cotton Bowl concessions, as long as the following rules are respected:

Alcoholic beverages will not be sold to fans who appear to be intoxicatedThere is a limit of two alcoholic beverages per purchaseFans without proof of being 21 or older can be ejected for possessing alcoholFans passing alcohol to minors will be ejected and possibly arrested

Cotton Bowl concessions have gone cashless, including in bars and merchandise stands.

Parking at the Cotton Bowl

Parking for the Red River Rivalry game is high price, and varies from lot to lot. Closer lots like the Parry Lot are starting at $309, while further lots like 146 S Hall St., around one mile away from the stadium, are starting at $72.

Find parking tickets through SeatGeek and VividSeats.
