Duke rewards ‘right leader’ Manny Diaz for winning ACC in 2025

The Duke Blue Devils have to be thrilled with what they’ve seen from head coach Manny Diaz ever since he came aboard in 2024.

Diaz has gone 18-9 in two campaigns, and last season, the Blue Devils went 9-5 and won the ACC. They beat No. 17 Virginia in the ACC Championship and then went on to beat Arizona State in the Sun Bowl.

It has been a good two seasons for Duke, and the Blue Devils are rewarding Diaz for his accomplishments so far.

As such, the university has announced that Diaz has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him around through the end of the 2032 season.

Terms of the extension were not disclosed, but the Blue Devils are clearly happy to have Diaz in the fold for the foreseeable future.

“Manny Diaz is exactly the right leader at exactly the right time for Duke University,” university Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King said in a statement. “His clear vision for Duke football, deep understanding of our student-athletes and strong alignment with campus and athletics leadership have positioned us for sustained success in the years ahead. We are incredibly proud to have him leading the Blue Devils, and with his passion, integrity and expertise, Duke football will continue to pursue excellence on and off the field well into the future.”

Duke on a roll with head coach Manny Diaz

Duke’s ACC title this past season was the first time the program has won the ACC outright since 1962.

Diaz’s two straight nine-win campaigns mark the first time Duke has notched nine or more wins in two straight years since 2013 and 2014.

Not only that, but he’s coached four All-American players and one Academic All-American.

Diaz, 52, is from Miami, Florida and he went to college at Florida State. His first coaching job was as a graduate assistant for FSU in 1998, and he was the head coach at Miami from 2019 to 2021.

He’s undoubtedly made his biggest impact in Durham, though.
