The Iowa Hawkeyes may not be the first college football program the average fan thinks about when it comes to NFL pipeline, but they should be. Lately, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs have become NFL factories, but that is something that the Hawkeyes have been doing for the entirety of the Kirk Ferentz era — which dates back to 1999.
Elite offensive linemen have always come out of Iowa, but the Hawkeyes have been producing NFL-caliber tight ends seemingly every few years.
That’s why it’s no surprise to see that Luke Brewer, a four-star tight end out of Norwalk, Iowa committed to the Hawkeyes on Wednesday. There’s, of course, the in-state connection, but Iowa is the place to go if you’re an aspiring tight end.
Brewer took an official visit to Iowa City to watch the Hawkeyes beat the Penn State Nittany Lions, 25-24, and that visit really sealed the deal in his recruitment. Miami, Tennessee and Iowa State were also in the running.
“That visit, I can tell you, left Iowa higher on my list than before,” he told 247Sports.
