Oregon loses four-star lineman as other schools make push

Bott Mulitalo is a four-star lineman from American Fork, Utah. He’s a big-time recruit because he has the potential to be an offensive or defensive lineman at the college level.

To that point, 247Sports ranks him as the No. 8 offensive tackle in the 2026 class. In the meantime, On3 ranks Mulitalo as the nation’s No. 12 defensive lineman.

To be ranked that highly at two different positions is a big deal, and for a few months Mulitalo was a big defensive line commitment for Dan Lanning and Oregon. He committed to the Ducks on Dec. 1. That’s a commitment that no longer stands, though, as it was reported on Monday that Mulitalo has opened his recruitment back up.

Why did he decide to change things? He was a defensive lineman recruit for Oregon, but he’s apparently getting some interest on the offensive side of the ball — and that led to some reconsideration.

“I committed to Oregon for defensive line but since that has changed I now want to see where I’m evaluated and which schools will be recruiting me for the offensive side,” Mulitalo told 247Sports.

“After a lot of conversations, I am going to be putting my energy toward offensive tackle,” he continued. “It’s the position where I believe I have the highest potential, especially when you look at what other Polynesian players have been doing in college to get to the NFL. That’s my ultimate goal and my biggest objective.”

Mulitalo is 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, so he absolutely has room to grow into a big-time offensive tackle.

Whether or not Lanning and Oregon will reconsider recruiting him at another position is something that remains to be seen, but Keegan Pope of On3 is reporting that Washington, USC and Utah are hot in pursuit of his commitment.

It’s worth noting that Mulitalo is coming off a junior day visit with the Huskies this past weekend.
