Meet The Sideline Reporters For The 2025 NCAA Tournament (1:10)

Prayers are pouring in after a college football player in Ohio was found dead in an off-campus incident.

A college football player at a Greater Cincinnati college in Ohio was found dead on Saturday night. Police reportedly responded to an off-campus incident at Wilmington College on Saturday evening. A sophomore college football player was reportedly found dead.

Tony Crane, a sophomore lineman, was reportedly found dead, dying from a gunshot wound.

An investigation is underway.

Sigrid Solomon, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, released a statement on the tragedy.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of one of our own, Tony Crane, a sophomore, who passed away early this morning. Tony was a valued member of both the football team and the DTS (Delta Theta Sigma) Fraternity. Counseling and Campus Ministry Services have been made available to students. Wilmington Police Department continues to investigate and reports there is no danger to community members. We will update the College as we learn more from authorities,” the statement read.

The college football player is believed to have been killed in a gun incident:

The Wilmington Police Department issued a press release that provided more information regarding the incident, saying that officers were first called to the DTS Fraternity House at around 12:43 a.m. on March 23 and found Crane suffering from a fatal gunshot wound, at which point he was pronounced dead.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene and there does not seem to be an ongoing threat to public safety.

Prayers are pouring in for his family.

“I’m grateful for the privilege of calling you brother!! Your presence may be absent at the shows, the house and campus but the impact of your life, your passions in agriculture and in the fraternity, will continue to resonate within us, I’ll keep you in my heart and with me when Im at the barn, keep watch Tonyyyy,” one friend wrote.

“Please pray for the Crane family. Unfortunately we lost one our beef family members Tony Crane last evening. Tony was a sophomore in college. I will share more details of services and what we can do to help the Crane family!” another friend added.

“Praying,” one friend added.
