SEC standings have a new top-two after Alabama’s loss in Week 12

The SEC had a few major shake ups in the conference standings in Week 12. Most notably, Alabama lost at home to Oklahoma, who forced Alabama into three turnovers. Alabama had over 190 total yards more than Oklahoma, but lost due to turnovers, a missed field goal and an inconsistent offense. Alabama is no longer undefeated in SEC play, but is an SEC championship contender.

The SEC’s other undefeated team, Texas A&M trailed 30-3 at halftime against South Carolina. However, Texas A&M roared back and won 31-30 in a loss that really stings for coach Shane Beamer and South Carolina, who are no longer bowl eligible.

In another shocking result, Georgia dominated Texas 35-10 to finish the SEC regular season 7-1. With Georgia 7-1 and Texas A&M 7-0 all teams with two losses in conference play have been eliminated from the SEC championship race.

Ole Miss is the only other SEC team with a shot to go to Atlanta. Ole Miss beat Florida in a battle of two teams that hope Lane Kiffin will be their head coach next season. The loss means Florida is no longer bowl eligible.

Missouri notched a high-scoring conference win over Mississippi State and Arkansas remains winless in SEC play after blowing another double digit lead. Tennessee and Kentucky both earned wins over non-Power Four competition. Auburn and Vanderbilt both had bye weeks.
