As college teams get ready for their upcoming season, more roster holes are filling up as high school players commit, and the excitement is building for both the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines.
These two teams have a long history of a rivalry together in the Big Ten. Both want to win a national championship for their schools. It was heartwarming to see the Indiana Hoosiers pull off a victory for the first time in program history, but both the Wolverines and Buckeyes want that title.
So, what are the chances that either team will win this season?
Former Buckeyes quarterback and current ESPN personality Kirk Herbstreit is talking football, and he has an idea of who will win for the 2026-27 season.

The Wolverines have a new head coach in Kyle Whittingham, and Ohio State is back with Ryan Day. But, according to Herbstreit, neither of them will win the NCAA championship this upcoming season. He projects that Miami will take it all.
“I think Miami might be the team to win it all this year,” he stated on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday. “I think Miami. The running back’s back (Mark Fletcher), (Malachi) Toney’s back. They’re going to be loaded this year.”
As much as it hurts for Buckeyes to hear their former quarterback say that Ohio State isn’t going to win, he makes a good point that Fletcher and Toney are among two of the best players in college football right now.
Fletcher clocked 1,192 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the 2025 season, while Toney had 109 receptions, 1,211 yards and an impressive 10 touchdowns. The latter also won the ACC Rookie of the Year. Having them both back is a gift.
Plus, the Hurricanes have a new quarterback this year in Darian Mensah of Duke, so if the chemistry is there, this could indeed be the team to beat.
